Hannah Nicholson was born in 1896 at Liverpool.1 She was the daughter of Thomas Medhurst Nicholson and Ann Lancaster.1
She was recorded as living with her parents, her two older step-brothers and her older siblings, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, Donald and John in the 1901 census at 9 Dawber street, Everton, Liverpool. She was recorded as being 5 years old.1 Her occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.1
She was recorded as living with her mother, a boarder, her step-brother and her older siblings, Thomas, Elizabeth, Donald and John in the 1911 census at 32 Breckfield Road, South Liverpool. She was recorded as being 15 years old.2 Her occupation was recorded as being a tobacco stripper working for a cigarette manufacturer in the census.2
