Donald Nicholson was born in 1894 at Liverpool.1 He was the son of Thomas Medhurst Nicholson and Ann Lancaster.1
He was recorded as living with his parents, his two older step-brothers and his siblings John, William, Thomas, Elizabeth and Hannah in the 1901 census at 9 Dawber street, Everton, Liverpool. He was recorded as being 7 years old.1 His occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.1
He was recorded as living with his mother, a boarder, his step-brother and his siblings John, Thomas, Elizabeth and Hannah in the 1911 census at 32 Breckfield Road, South Liverpool. He was recorded as being 19 years old.2 His occupation was recorded as being a hotel boot in a boarding house in the census.2
