David Mitchell Reid was born on 18 November 1854 at Aberdeen.1 He was the son of James Reid and Margaret Gibb.1 David Mitchell Reid was baptised at St. Nicholas on Tuesday, 5 December 1854 at Aberdeen.1

They was recorded as living with his parents, aunt and siblings Annie, James, Robina and Irvine in the 1861 census at 58 John Street, Aberdeen.2 David Mitchell Reid was a scholar in April 1861.2

He was recorded as living with his parents and siblings Annie, Jessie, Robina, Irvine, Charles and Margaret in the 1871 census at Aberdeen. He was recorded as being 16 years old.3 David Mitchell Reid was a 'student of arts' on 2 April 1871.3

His father died 6 November 1881 at the age of 66. David was aged 26 when this happened.

The will of James Reid, in which Margaret Gibb and David Mitchell Reid were named as heirs was proved on 8 March 1882. His estate was valued at 572 pounds..4

On 3 May 1882 his sister Robina died at the age of 24.

David died on 23 August 1918 at Surrey at age 63.1
