Augustus was born on Tuesday, 14 March 1843 at Launceston, Tasmania.1 He was the son of Charles Littler and Annie Summers.
He married Hannah Sarah Murray, daughter of Kennedy Murray and Hannah Goodall, in a Church of Scotland ceremony on Thursday, 22 August 1867 at Trafalgar, Tasmania. He was 24 and his wife Hannah was 21. Hannah was the daughter of a farmer.. Augustus and Hannah went on to have seven children together. Augustus East Littler was a lawyer's clerk.2
Augustus died circa 22 May 1880 at Launceston, Tasmania, by being 'suffocated and drowned' in the North Esk River after 'giving way to a besetting sin'. His body was not found for nearly 5 months..3,1 His body was interred on 16 October 1880.2
