Niels Hansen Saxlund was born circa 1796 at at Saxlund (or Sakslund) farm near the village of Stange Stange Parish, Hedmark, Norway.2,3 He was the son of Hans Simensen Saxlund and Marie Nielsdatter Saxlund.1 He presumably lived with his parents at Stange, Stange Parish, Hedmark, in March 1796.4 Niels Hansen Saxlund was baptised on Sunday, 3 July 1796 at Ottestad, Stange Parish, Hedmark, Norway.5
He was recorded as living with his parents and five siblings Simen, Anne, Oliv, Dorthe and Hans in the 1801 census at Stange, Stange Parish, Hedmark. He was recorded as being 4 years old.6
