Ann Hornby was born circa 1837 at Lancashire.1 She was the daughter of Matthew Hornby and Mary Mayoh.1

She was recorded as living with her parents and brother Adam in the 1841 census at at Mason Row in the village of Turton near the town of Bolton, Lancashire.1

She was recorded as living with her step-mother and siblings Adam and Thomasson in the 1851 census at at 31 Blackburn Road in the village of Turton near the town of Bolton, Lancashire. Her husband does not seem to appear on the census.2 Her occupation was recorded as being a 'piecer / cotton twist' in the census.2

She was recorded as living with her step-mother and younger siblings Thomasson and Mary in the 1861 census at the village of Egerton near the town of Bolton, Lancashire. She was recorded as being 52 years old; also living in the house was her step-daughter, her two daughters and a family of lodgers.3
