Adam Hornby was born circa 1840 at Lancashire.1 He was the son of Matthew Hornby and Mary Mayoh.1
He was recorded as living with his parents and sister Ann in the 1841 census at at Mason Row in the village of Turton near the town of Bolton, Lancashire.1
He was recorded as living with his step-mother and younger siblings Ann and Thomasson in the 1851 census at at 31 Blackburn Road in the village of Turton near the town of Bolton, Lancashire. Her husband does not seem to appear on the census.2 His occupation was recorded as being a 'piecer / cotton twist' in the census.2
