Samuel was born on Friday, 1 August 1884 at Deloraine, Tasmania.2 He was the son of William Reid and Mary Jane Fookes. His common name was Sam.3
Samuel Berjew Fooks Reid married Edith Caroline Fysh on Saturday, 6 July 1907 at Launceston, Tasmania. They were 22 and 30 respectively.4,2 Samuel and Edith lived in 1915 at 'Hornsey' 9 Adelaide Street, in Launceston, Tasmania.3 Samuel Berjew Fooks Reid was a flour miller in 1920.3
Samuel had fathered a child (Dawn Kathleen) by his landlady's daughter (Jean Forrest) during a period (mid to late 1920's) when he lived in Launceston, whilst Edith and the children lived at Douglas Street, Bellerive. It is believed that the Fysh Family arranged and paid for the move to New Zealand as Sam had become a burden which the establishment Fysh family could no longer endure.3
Samuel died on 15 May 1963 at Christchurch, New Zealand, at age 78 of perforated appendix/septicemia.2 His body was interred at Temuka Domain Cemetery on 20 May 1963 at South Canturbury, New Zealand.2
