Mary was born on Tuesday, 23 October 1849 at Jerusalem (now Colebook), Tasmania.1,2 She was the daughter of Rev. Samuel Berjew Fookes and Margaret Sarah Westbrook. She presumably lived with her parents at Impression Bay (now Premaydena), Tasman Penninsula, Tasmania, in 1854.3
Her mother died 11 June 1854 at the age of 31. Mary was aged 4 when this happened.4 She presumably lived with her parents at Colebrook Dale, Tasmania, in July 1861.5
She married William Reid, a miller, son of John Reid and Mary Barclay, in a Church of England ceremony conducted by her father at St. Andrew's Anglican on Thursday, 24 October 1872 at Perth, Tasmania. She was 23 and her husband William was 24.. William and Mary went on to have nine known children together.6,7,8,5
On 15 November 1872 her brother Arthur died at the age of 5 killed by the kick of a horse in a paddock adjoining their home in Perth, Tasmania.9,10,11 Mary and William lived in 1883 at Deloraine, Tasmania.12
Her father died 2 November 1892 at the age of 70. Mary was aged 43 when this happened. Mary and William lived in 1914 at 9 Innes Street, in Launceston, Tasmania.12 Mary and William lived in 1917 at Main Street, in Perth, Tasmania.3
Mary died on 1 May 1924 at Perth, Tasmania, at age 74.5 Her body was interred at St. Andrew's Anglican on 2 May 1924 at Perth, Tasmania.3
