Mary Fooks was born circa 1801 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.1 She was the daughter of William Fooks and Ann Williams MacKenzie.1 Mary Fooks was baptised on Wednesday, 10 October 1804 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset. she was baptised on the same day as three of her siblings.1

She married Lazarus Roberts, a retired naval Lieutenant, by licence in a Church of England ceremony at the parish mother church of St. Mary's on Thursday, 6 March 1823 at Radipole, Weymouth, Dorset.. They went on to have a dozen children together..1 Mary Fooks attested to the validity of Jane Iles's will on 6 November 1824 at Dorset.2,3 She attested to the validity of Jane Iles's will on 24 April 1829 at Dorset.2,3

Mary Fooks was recorded as living with Lazarus Roberts in the 1841 census at at Brightlingsea Street in the village of Brightlingsea near the town of Colchester, Essex, and other records indicate this was her spouse. The 1841 census only recorded adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years; her approximate age was recorded as 30. Also living in the house were five of her children, aged 12 to 2, and a servant.4 Her father made a will on Saturday, 4 June 1842. William named his daughter Mary as a beneficiary, as well as two bankers, presumably as he owed money to them. It isn't clear why none of his other children were made beneficiaries..1

Her father died 19 September 1844.

Mary Fooks was recorded as the spouse of Lazarus Roberts in the 1851 census at Harrison's Buildings, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.5

Mary died on 23 August 1855 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.1 She was buried on 28 August 1855 at St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.1
