Arthur Pilch Roberts was born circa 1832 at Harwich, Essex.1 He was the son of Lazarus Roberts and Mary Fooks.2
He was recorded as living with his parents and four siblings, Charles, Mary, Catherine and Ellen in the 1841 census at at Brightlingsea Street in the village of Brightlingsea near the town of Colchester, Essex. He was recorded as being 9 years old.3
He was recorded as living with his parents, a servant, and siblings, Ellen, Catherine, Alfred and Edward in the 1851 census at Harrison's Buildings, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He was recorded as being 18 years old.4
