David was born in 1823 at Denny, Stirlingshire.1
David Smith married Jessie Elder Law Reid, daughter of James Reid and Margaret Gibb, circa 1890.1 His occupation was recorded as being retired Independent Minister in the census.1
David Smith was listed as living with his wife and baby son, in his mother-in-law's house in the 1881 census at 94 Irvine Place, in Aberdeen. Also in the house was his brother-in-law.1
