Martha Elizabeth Jones was born circa 1878 at Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire.2 She was the daughter of Thomas Jones and Effie Nicholson.2
She was recorded as living with her mother, her mother's mother and siblings Samuel, Amy, Thomas, Eva and Ezra in the 1881 census. She was recorded as being just 3 years old.2 Her occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.2
She was recorded as living with her mother, her mother's mother, a cousin and siblings Thomas, Ezra, Noel and Hannah in the 1891 census at Marmion Road, Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 13 years old. The Jones household was next door to Effie's brother Thomas' house.3 Her occupation was recorded as being a scholar in the census.3
She was recorded as living with her parents, grandmother and siblings Amy, Thomas, Noel and Hannah in the 1901 census at 15 Marmion Road, Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 23 years old.4
She was recorded as living with her parents and adult siblings Amy and Noel in the 1911 census at Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 33 years old.5 Her occupation was recorded as being a school teacher employed by the county council in the census.5
