Robert Grigg was born on 12 April 1830 at Liskeard, Cornwall.1
He married Frances Cameron Ross Brown, daughter of John Brown and Margaret Miller, at St. Andrew's Scots Presbyterian Church on Thursday, 16 November 1854 at Sydney. He was 24 and his wife Frances was 23. Fanny was the daughter of a sawyer. The wedding certificate was also signed by Alexander Brown. Others who may have attended the wedding include Margaret Miller as mother of the bride and John Brown as father of the bride. Brothers and sisters who may have attended include Margaret Brown, Jessie Brown, John Brown, Agnes Brown and Donald Brown. Robert and Frances went on to have five known children together.2 Robert Grigg was a salesman in October 1855.3 Robert and Frances lived in October 1855 at the Sydney area of Balmain.3
Robert died on 1 June 1910 at Araluen, New South Wales, at age 80. In a short obituary he was remembered as being one of the pioneers of the district, arriving 50 years ago.4,1
