Eric was born on Wednesday, 15 October 1890 at Waratah, Tasmania.3 He was the son of Rev. Henry Samuel Cox Fookes and Jane Maria Murray.

His mother died 22 August 1903 at the age of 52. Eric was aged 12 when this happened.4

He may have attended the wedding of his sister in the marriage of Charles Leigh Clare Nicholson and Louise Augusta Fookes in a Church of England ceremony at St. Martin's Church on Sunday, 8 December 1907 at Queenstown, Tasmania. Louise and Charles went on to have three children together.5

Eric Vere Fookes married Lily Motten circa 1914 at Tasmania.7,8 Eric was on active duty Regimental number 6 Private 10 Infantry Brigade Headquaters Unit embarked from Hobart, Tasmania, on board HMAT A35 Berrima on 1 July 1916 circa 1915.7 In his adulthood Eric made a living as a banker.

His father died 10 February 1924 at the age of 76. Eric was aged 33 when this happened. Eric and Lily lived in 1928 at Lindisfarne, Tasmania.9

Eric died on 19 October 1963 at Lindisfarne, Tasmania, at age 73.10 His body was cremated at Cornelian Bay Cemetery on 21 October 1963 at Cornelian Bay, Tasmania.9
