James was born in 1818.2 He was the son of Thomas Tapley and Mary Morford.1

James emigrated from Plymouth on 31 July 1838 on the "Rajasthan."3,4 After a voyage of after a voyage of 3 1/2 months James arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia, on 16 November 1838.3,4


He married Mary Sharpe, on Thursday, 28 September 1854 at South Australia. The wedding certificate was also signed by Richard Edward Tapley.1
