Arthur was born on Saturday, 20 December 1834 at Lockington, Yorkshire.2

Arthur Cherry married Sarah Ann Oaten, daughter of William Oaten and Mary Billett, on Saturday, 8 September 1860 at the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. They were 25 and 19 respectively.2,1 Arthur Cherry was a fellmonger and tanner.2 He (and presumably his spouse Sarah) moved to Coburg, Victoria, circa 1874.2 Arthur Cherry was an overseer at the tannery at Pentridge Prison, in Coburg, Victoria.2 He retired in 1894.2 He was on the Coburg Shire Council for a number of years, including Shire President.2 He was a Justice of the Peace in 1903.2 Arthur and Sarah lived in 1903 at at 33 Waterfield Street in the Melbourne suburb of Coburg.2

Arthur died on 26 June 1915 at the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy at age 80.
