William was born on Thursday, 30 April 1818 at Stoney Down, Pitminster, Somerset.1,2 William was born at Fulwood Independent Church on Sunday, 17 May 1818 at Pitminster, Somerset.3
He married Mary Billett, daughter of Samuel Billett and Ann Allen, on Thursday, 31 December 1840 at Pitminster, Somerset..4,1,5
He was recorded as head of household in the 1841 census with Mary Billett (which other records indicate is his spouse) at Eastbrook, Pitminster, Somerset. He was 23 years old. Also in the household were their first child.6 His occupation was recorded as being an agricultural labourer in the census.6
At the age of 34 William and Mary emigrated their three children from Liverpool on 15 November 1852 on the 'Marion Moore.7,8,2' William and Mary arrived at Victoria on 15 February 1853.7,2
William was employed by William S. Lees of Merri Creek £104 p.a. for 3 months with rations. in 1853.3 William made a living as from 1865 to 1872.9 William (and presumably his spouse Mary) lived at the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. between 1865 and 1872, first at Victoria Parade and then in Duke Street.9 William (and presumably his spouse Mary) lived in 1873 at Whittlesea, Victoria.9
In July 1873, William fell into a hole and broke his left leg. He was admitted to Royal Melbourne Hospital, a two or three hour journey by horse and cart.10
William may have died in 1887 at Berwick, Victoria.11
