Her baptism name was Lidia.4 Lydia was born.5,1 She was baptised on Sunday, 11 May 1817 at Herringfleet, Suffolk.5,4 She was the daughter of William Manthorpe and Hannah Read.3 Lydia lived in January 1838 at the village of Gorleston-on-Sea near the town of Great Yarmouth, Suffolk.6
She married James George Smith, a plumber and glazier, son of John Smith and (?) (?), in a Church of England ceremony on Monday, 8 January 1838 at Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, Suffolk. She was 20 and her husband James was 20..7,1,8,6
Lydia Manthorpe was recorded as living with James George Smith in the 1841 census at Market Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and other records indicate this was her spouse. The 1841 census only recorded adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years; her approximate age was recorded as 20 years old. Also living in the house were their two young children.9
Lydia Manthorpe was recorded as the spouse of James George Smith in the 1851 census at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. She was recorded as being 34 years old. Also living in the house were six of their children aged 13 to three years old.10

Her father died June 1873 at the age of 86. Lydia was aged 56 when this happened. Lydia lived on 18 November 1875 at 28 Northumberland Place, Yarmouth, Norfolk.16
