James Horatio Westbrook was born in 1829 at Tasmania.1,2 He was the son of Dr. Samuel Westbrook and Mary Margaret Mason.1 He presumably moved with his parents to Launceston, Tasmania, circa 1830.3 He presumably moved with his parents to Clifton House, in New Norfolk, Tasmania, on 17 February 1835.4 James Horatio Westbrook may have been baptised on Thursday, 29 September 1836 at Tasmania.1

He may have attended the wedding of his sister in the marriage of Rev. Samuel Berjew Fookes and Margaret Sarah Westbrook in a Church of England ceremony at St. John the Baptist on Saturday, 20 February 1847 at Buckland, Tasmania. Samuel and Margaret went on to have four children together, two of whom lived into their adulthood.5,6,7

James Horatio Westbrook married Margaret Bacon on Friday, 8 April 1853 at Oatlands, Tasmania.1

His father died 2 March 1866 at the age of 70.

James died in 1884 at Victoria.1,2
