Henry was born on Monday, 15 November 1886 at Rockhampton, Queensland.1 He was the son of Henry Hugh Hill and Jane Ellen Holt.
His mother died 22 August 1900. Henry was aged 13 when this happened.
He married Emily Morrissey, daughter of David Denis Morrissey and Mary Pearce, on Wednesday, 23 August 1911 at Rockhampton, Queensland..2,3 Henry Rowland Hill was a wire matress maker in 1912.4 Henry and Emily lived in 1912 at Cambridge Lane, in Rockhampton, Queensland.4 Henry lived in 1913 at Rockhampton, Queensland. In another electoral roll dated with the same date he gives his address as Campbell Street.5 Henry and Emily lived in 1916 at Campbell Street, in Rockhampton, Queensland.6 Henry and Emily lived in 1919 at George Street off North street, in Rockhampton, Queensland.7 Henry Rowland Hill was a woodworker for Messrs. James Stewart & Co. in Rockhampton, Queensland, in June 1920 at Rockhampton, Queensland.8
Henry sufferred a terrible industrial accident on 29 June 1920:
Henry and Emily lived in 1922 at 179 Bolsover St., in Rockhampton, Queensland.10 Henry and Emily lived in 1926 at 51 Bolsover Street, in Rockhampton, Queensland.11 Henry Rowland Hill was a wood machinist in 1931.12 Henry and Emily lived in 1931 at corner Ward and Henry Streets, in Rockhampton, Queensland.12 He was living with his father and wife at Rockhampton, Queensland, in 1937.13 Henry provided information on the death of his father Henry Hugh Hill, on 10 July 1938, at General Hospital, in Rockhampton, Queensland, at age 51.14,15
His father died 10 July 1938 at the age of 85. Henry was aged 51 when this happened. Henry Rowland Hill and Emily Morrissey had no children together.2 Henry lived on 31 July 1943 at the People's Palace Denison, in Rockhampton, Queensland. People's Palaces were Salvation Army-run establishments, a combination of temperance hotel and short-term accommodation for people short of a quid or needing an emergency bed.16,17
He married Margaret McMahon, daughter of Thomas McMahon and Sabina Connell, at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, 31 July 1943 at the Brisbane suburb of Rosalie. He was 56 and his wife Margaret was 48..18 Henry Rowland Hill was a railway vehicle builder circa 1945.2 He was a wood machinist in 1949.19 Henry and Margaret lived in 1949 at 58 Glencoe street, in Rockhampton, Queensland.19 Henry Rowland Hill was not listed with an occupation, so he may have been unemployed in 1954.20 Henry and Margaret lived in 1954 at 4 Vaughan Street, in Yepoon, Queensland. They stayed there until for at least another decade.21
Henry died on 3 May 1965 at 4 Vaughan Street, in Yeppoon, Queensland, at age 78 of cerebral haemorrhage and arteriosclerosis.2,22 His body was cremated at Rockhampton Crematorium at the Rockhampton suburb of Norman Gardens. His remains were interred in Wall 7 after a Church of England ceremony.23,2 Henry Rowland Hill and Margaret McMahon had no children together.2

On Tuesday morning the Rockhampton Ambulance Brigade received a call to the machinery works of Messrs. James Stewart and Co., where it was found that an employee named Henry Hill, aged thirty-two years, who resides in George street, while working at a planing machine, had had his left hand drawn into the machineby a piece of timber, which he was planing, slipping, with the result that four of his fingers were severed at the first joint. The bearers rendered first aid and conveyed the sufferer to the surgery of Dr. D. E. A. Buchanan and then to his home.9
