Ellen was born at Royal Women's Hospital on Saturday, 12 January 1895 at the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.1 She was the daughter of Charles Edwin Morris and Elsie May Hill. Ellen Gertrude Morris was also known as Nell.2 Ellen Gertrude Morris was also known as Nellie.3

Her mother died 7 September 1902. Ellen was aged 7 when this happened.4

Ellen was in foster care in 1902 with her sister following the death of her mother.5,3 Ellen lived in 1917 at the Melbourne suburb of Alphington.3

She married Henry William Oaten, son of Charles Henry Oaten and Catherine Carroll, at Baptist Tabernacle on Sunday, 19 January 1919 at the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. She was 24 and her husband Henry was 22..6,7 Ellen and Henry lived in 1921 at at 3 Stanley Street in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote.8 Ellen's occupation was given as 'home duties' in 1921.8 Ellen and Henry lived in 1922 at at 17 Kelvin Grove in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote.9 Ellen and Henry lived in 1924 at the Melbourne suburb of Preston.3 Ellen and Henry lived in 1931 at 49 Pender Street, in Preston.10 Ellen and Henry lived in 1949 at Preston.3

Ellen died on 19 August 1955 at Tawonga, Victoria, at age 60.11,12,1,2 Her body was interred at Preston Cemetery on 21 August 1955 at the Melbourne suburb of Preston. Area F, Plot PR-F****4428. She is buried with her husband, her father and her son John..13,3,12
