John was born on Wednesday, 16 January 1907 at Cobar, New South Wales.1,2 He was the son of Donald Norman Aplitt and Lily Jones.

He married Ivy Blanche Davison, daughter of William Davison and Sarah Elizabeth Mitchell, on Saturday, 16 January 1937 on John's on his 30th birthday, at the Sydney suburb of Auburn. He was 30 and his wife Ivy was 28..3,4,5

John died on 18 December 1945 at at Parramatta Road in the Sydney suburb of Homebush at age 38 He died when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a military truck.6,7 He was buried on 20 December 1946 at at Rookwood Crematorium in the Sydney suburb of Rookwood.8
