Donald was born on Friday, 13 June 1879 at Stokes Hill, Forbes, New South Wales. Donald was the first of about seven children born to his parents.1 He was the son of John William Aplett and Frances Nicholson. Donald lived in 1901 at Bathurst Lane, in Brewarrina, New South Wales.2
He married Lily Jones, daughter of James Henry Jones and Sarah Jane Cox, in a Church of England ceremony on Monday, 14 January 1907 at Cobar, New South Wales. The marriage took place at the house of Mrs. William Jenkins. Sarah, Lily's mother, gave consent that her 20 year old daughter could be married. Both the bride and groom were living in Cobar at the time..3 Donald was employed as a labourer in 1907.3 Donald lived in 1926 at at Sutherland Street in the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe.4 Donald lived in 1929 at the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe.5 In his later adulthood Donald made a living as a watchman.6 Donald lived in 1932 at Lidcombe.7 Donald lived in 1965 at at 31 Silverwater Road in the Sydney suburb of North Auburn.8
Donald died on 28 February 1965 at the Sydney suburb of Auburn at age 85.6,9 He was buried on 3 March 1965 at at Rookwood Crematorium in the Sydney suburb of Rookwood.10
