She was born on 29 June 1859 at Sydney.3 She was the daughter of John Chalmers and Jessie Brown.1 Sarah Jessie Chalmers was baptised at a Presbyterian church on Sunday, 2 October 1859 at Sydney.3

Sara is supposed to have eloped with an American, leaving two children behind. This is based from notes by LNW based on information from her grandmother Jessie Pendred nee Brown 23 Feb 1978.

Sarah Jessie Chalmers married William Roderick in 1891.4
