William was born in 1828 at the small Tasmanian town of Evandale. He was the son of Kennedy Murray and Sarah McQueen.
He married Mary Anne Glover, on Tuesday, 21 August 1849 at Patterdale, Tasmania..
In 1850 he owned 'Woodstock', in Morven, Tasmania.1
In 1858 he owned a house on one acre at Evandale.1
He leased land at Woodstock (270 acres) and Black Forest (2610 acres.)1
A meeting of his creditors was held at Launceston, Tasmania, in 1862.1
