John was in the 22nd Regiment, stationed in Berampure, India, from 1807.2

In 1810 he was part of the force that invaded and occupied Mauritius (then called Isle de France.)2

John, as the father of the bride, attended the wedding of Arabella and Richard Edward Tapley on Thursday, 7 July 1836 at Port Louis, Mauritius. Arabella was 28 and her husband Richard was 24. Arabella was a widow when she married.. .3,4,5

British Army pension records show him resident in Mauritius until 1845.2
