It is said that Arabella's mother was found as an infant next to the drowned remains of her parents. the soldier who found her ultimately married her.1 Arabella was born on Monday, 13 June 1808 at Berampure, India.3,4 She was the daughter of John McDonald.2 Arabella and Richard lived at Mauritius.1

She married Richard Edward Tapley, son of Thomas Tapley and Mary Morford, on Thursday, 7 July 1836 at Port Louis, Mauritius. She was 28 and her husband Richard was 24. Arabella was a widow when she married..5,6,1

In 1838 Arabella and Richard were missionaries for the Mico Charity, running a school in Mapou, Mauritius, for children of freed slaves.7 She presumably lived with her spouse Richard at Gilbert Street, in Adelaide, in October 1850.8

Arabella, as the mother of the groom, along with Richard may have attended the wedding of John and Ellen Masters Baker They were married at her parent's residence in a Congregationalist ceremony conducted by Ellen's father at Hillside House on Friday, 25 December 1857 at Morphett Vale, South Australia.. Others who may have attended include Ruth Wayte as mother of the bride. John and Ellen went on to have two children together.9,10,11 She presumably lived with her spouse Richard at the Adelaide suburb of Norwood on 19 June 1869.11

It seems likely that her husband Richard enaged Emma Whithorn, a teenager, to care for Arabella in her deteriorating health.3

Arabella died on 22 May 1875 at the Adelaide suburb of Kent Town at age 66 of paralysis.3
