Leornel Manthorpe was born circa 1853 at Somerleyton, Suffolk.1 He was the son of George Marston Manthorpe and Caroline Oldman.1
He was recorded as living with his parents, his younger brother, a brother-in law and a sister in law Frederick in the 1861 census at 3 Old Hall, Herringfleet, Suffolk. Also living in the house were his son-in-law, his daughter-in-law and his two sons.1
