Joseph William Downward married Harriet Eleanor Westbrook, daughter of Dr. Samuel Westbrook and Mary Margaret Mason, in 1848.1,2
Joseph died on 3 March 1888 at Rokeby, Tasmania, at age 80.1 He was buried at St. Mattews Anglican Cemetery, in Rokeby, Tasmania.1
