Thomas Richard Darby was born on 25 March 1833 at Greenwich, London.^2,1 He was the son of James Darby and Elizabeth Brambel.¹ Thomas Richard Darby was baptised at St. Alphege on Sunday, 21 April 1833 at Greenwich, London.¹

He was recorded as living with his parents and older sister Adelaide in the 1841 census at Plumbridge Street, Greenwich, London. He was recorded as being 8 years old.³

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census at 12 Vine Street, Westminster, London. He was 18 years old.² His occupation was recorded as being a tallow chandler's clerk in the census.² Thomas lived in December 1854 at Lisson Street, Marylebone, London.⁴ He was a clerk in December 1854.⁴

Thomas Richard Darby married Ann Mutton, daughter of William Mutton, at Christ Church on Monday, 25 December 1854 at Marylebone, London.⁴
