Louis Fookes was born on 5 August 1864 at Perth, Tasmania.3,2 He was the son of Rev. Samuel Berjew Fookes and Louisa Jean Hobkirk.2 Louis Fookes was probably baptised at St. Andrew's Anglican Cemetery on Tuesday, 27 September 1864 at Perth, Tasmania.4 His common name was Lou.5

On 15 November 1872 his brother Arthur died at the age of 5 killed by the kick of a horse in a paddock adjoining their home in Perth, Tasmania.6,7,8

On the Queen's Birthday, Louis came first in a 100 yards foot race for Under 10s at Richmond, Tasmania.9

He attended James Sutherland Babbington and his sister. Grace Fookes's wedding in a Church of England cermony at St. David's Mission Church Campbell Street. His father officiated at the wedding on Wednesday, 12 August 1885 at Hobart. This was the first marriage to ever take place in this church. As was the tradition, she was presented with a bible by the churchwardens. James and Grace went on to have three children together.10,11,12,2

His father died 2 November 1892 at the age of 70. Louis was aged 28 when this happened.

Noel worked for a while as assistant surveyor to his uncle Louis as he surveyed Tamar Heads and Scottsdale, Tasmania.5

Louis died on 26 April 1910 at Mareeba Hospital, in Mareeba, Queensland, at age 45 of malarial fever.13,2 His body was likely interred at Mareeba cemetery at Mareeba, Queensland.4
