Thomas Fitzgerald was born circa 1850.1
He married Mary Bourke, daughter of Patrick Bourke and Mary Ann Cannon, in 1873 at Orange, New South Wales. Mary was the daughter of a labourer.. Altogether they were to have four children.12
On 4 June 1885 he donated monies to the Dr. Torreggiani Memorial Fund.3
In September 1885, Thomas Fitzgerald had his hotel (and one of his guests) robbed of some 'prints, sugar, boots &c.' by a William and Isabella Hawkins and Peter Smith. Hawkins and Smith were arrested near the Queensland border.4,5,6
Thomas ws publican of the Deepwater Hotel, in Deepwater, New South Wales.7
It was reported on Saturday, 16 January 1897 that Thomas gave £25 and the site for the construction of the Deepwater Catholic Church. He "made all the visitors his guests during the day."8,9
The will of his brother-in-law Patrick Bourke, in which Thomas was named sole heir was proved on 16 August 1897 He also apparently owned the Deepwater Hotel in Deepwater and two parcels of land in Glen Innes totalling a little over half an acre. His entire estate was left to his sister Mary's husband, Tom Fitzgerald.10,2,11
