John was born circa 1716 at Halvergate, Norfolk.2 He was the son of Andrew Manthorpe and Elizabeth Ellet.2
John Manthorpe married Hannah Buddrey in 1740 at Lingwood, Norfolk.2
John and Hannah Buddrey became the parents of James Manthorpe on Sunday, 23 April 1758 at Lingwood, Norfolk.2
His wife Hannah died 9 April 1786 at the approximate age of 77, leaving him a widower.
John died just six weeks after the death of his wife on 16 May 1786.2
