Lewis Carter was born circa 1861 at Saxmundham, Suffolk.1,3
Lewis Carter married Alberta Louisa Lydia Smith, daughter of James George Smith and Lydia Manthorpe, on Thursday, 8 November 1888 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.3
He was recorded as living with his wife, her parents and a visitor in the 1891 census at 69 Nelson Road North, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He was recorded as being 30 years old.4 His occupation was recorded as being an insurance agent in the census.4 Lewis lived in 1901 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.1,3
He was recorded as head of household in the 1901 census with Alberta Louisa Lydia Smith as his spouse at 23 South Market Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Lewis's age was recorded as being 40 years old; also in the house was his mother-in-law, aged 83.5 His occupation was recorded as being an insurance agent in the census.5
