Charles was born on Tuesday, 23 February 1937 at Victoria.1 He was the son of Hubert Nicholson and Mavis Lily Oaten.

Charles died on 9 March 1937 at the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.2,1 His body was interred at Coburg Pine Ridge Cemetery at the Melbourne suburb of Coburg. He is buried in the Church of England Area, Plot COE*D***543. He is buried with his mother's parents and her brother.1,3
