James was born on Sunday, 10 October 1813 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.1,2 He was the son of James MacKenzie Fooks and Jane Berjew. James MacKenzie Fooks was baptised on Sunday, 30 January 1814 at the village of Up Cerne near the town of Cerne Abbas, Dorset. His family travelled at least 15 miles - a journey of several hours - so he could be baptised in the church his mother's father was rector of.3,4

James died on 5 May 1815 at Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset, at age 1.1,5 His body was interred at All Saints on 10 May 1815 at the village of Wyke Regis near the town of Weymouth, Dorset.6
