Laurence was born in 1895 at Mount Hope, New South Wales.1 He was the son of James Brown Nicholson and Lydia Horsnell.

Laurence Malcolm Nicholson married Irene Agnes McDermott in 1919 at Cobar, New South Wales.2 Laurence Malcolm Nicholson was a mechanic in 1936.3 Laurence and Irene lived in 1936 at 272 Brisbane Street, in Dubbo, New South Wales.3

Laurence died on 29 March 1958 at at 45 Roslyn Gardens in the Sydney suburb of Elizabeth Bay.4,5,6 He was buried on 1 April 1958 at at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park in the Sydney suburb of Botany Bay.4
