James was born on Friday, 7 July 1893 at the Sydney suburb of St. Leonards.2,3 He was the son of James Daniel Beatty and Annie Eliza (?)1 James Curry Beatty was a student, although the nominal role states he was a law clerk in April 1915.4,5 He lived with his father at at Hercules Street in the Sydney suburb of Chatswood in April 1915.5 He enlisted into 'C' Company, 36th Battalion AIF on 28 April 1915 at age 21.4 James was on active duty in the 36th Bn. AIF. He served during the first world war as a Sergeant.2
He married Susan Georgina Gormon Bourke, daughter of Michael Bourke and Susannah Alletta Nicholson, at The Register Office on Friday, 2 August 1918 at St. Pancras, London. He was 25 and his wife Susan was 37..2 James lived in August 1918 at the Bedford Hotel, St. Giles, London.2 He was released from active duty on 24 August 1918 at Australia.4 James and Susan lived circa March 1924 at at 'Rothsay' in the Sydney suburb of Manly.6
His wife Susan died 7 June 1924 at the age of 42, leaving him a widower at age 30.7 James lived in June 1924 at 119 Bathurst St, in Sydney. shortly after the death of his wife.6 James lived in 1930 at at 149 Dowling Street in the Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst West.8 He was a clerk in 1930.8 James lived in 1936 at at 10 Birrell Street in the Sydney suburb of Waverley.9
On 10 September 1942 his son Argyle died at the age of 22 flying as RAAF aircrew in Europe. James lived in 1943 at at 22 Gladstone Street in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.10 He was a public servant in 1943.10 He was a clerk in 1949.11 James lived in 1949 at Commercial Hotel, in Dubbo, New South Wales.11
James died on 3 January 1955 at the Sydney suburb of Chatswood at age 61.3
