Thomas was born on Saturday, 20 August 1825 at the small Tasmanian town of Evandale. He was the son of Kennedy Murray and Sarah McQueen. Thomas John Murray was a farmer.2
Thomas John Murray married Sarah Luckhurst, daughter of William Henry Luckhurst and Ann Hubbard, on Tuesday, 5 May 1846 at Launceston, Tasmania.3 It has been suggested that in his later life Thomas made a living as a railway worker.2
His father died 30 November 1860 at the age of 61. Thomas was aged 35 when this happened.
He may have attended the wedding of his sister in the marriage of Arthur Alfred Littler and Marianne Goodall Murray in a Presbyterian ceremony conducted by Rev R. S. Duff at Trafalger on Monday, 5 November 1877 at the small Tasmanian town of Evandale. Arthur and Marianne went on to have six known children together.4,5,6,7
Thomas died on 14 June 1908 at Launceston, Tasmania, at age 82.8
