Maria Oaten was born on 6 October 1834 at Wiveliscombe, Somerset.1 She was the daughter of Frederick Oaten and Dinah Bradbeer.1 Maria Oaten was baptised at Parish church of St. Andrew on Sunday, 26 October 1834 at Wiveliscombe, Somerset. When Maria was baptised the church would have been very new. The work of the West Country architect Richard Carver dated from 1829. The previous church was taken down in 1827 as it was thought to be unsafe.1 She was a dressmaker.1

Maria Oaten married George Thomas Trapnell at St. Jude's Parish Church on Monday, 23 January 1860 at Bristol.1

Maria Oaten emigrated from Bristol in 1883.1 She arrived in 1883 at New York City.1


Maria died on 31 March 1909 at Red Oak, Iowa, at age 74.1
