William Finney was born circa 1834 at Richmond, Surrey.2,1 He was the son of Stephen Finney and Harriet Oaten.1 William Finney was baptised on Monday, 6 January 1834 at Richmond, Surrey.1
In John Oaten's will on 21 March 1837 Hannah Tamsey, Mary Oaten, Anne Oaten, Harriet Oaten and Hannah Oaten, Elizabeth Oaten and Amelia Oaten, Harriet Finney, William Finney, Mary Barker, Harriet Oaten and Joseph Oaten were named as heirs. As John's nephew, he was to receive £100 from the estate on his 21st birthday..3
He was recorded as living with his widowed father and siblings Harriet, Catharine, Mary and Caroline in the 1851 census at Paddington, London.2
By the terms of his grandfather's will, he should have received £100 in 1855, on his 21st birthday.3
