Harriet Finney may have been born in 1831 at London.1 She was likely born in 1833 at Maker, Devon.2 She was the daughter of Stephen Finney and Harriet Oaten.1

In John Oaten's will on 21 March 1837 Hannah Tamsey, Mary Oaten, Anne Oaten, Harriet Oaten and Hannah Oaten, Elizabeth Oaten and Amelia Oaten, Harriet Finney, William Finney, Mary Barker, Harriet Oaten and Joseph Oaten were named as heirs. As John's niece, she was to receive £100 from the estate on her 21st birthday..3

She was recorded as living with her widowed father and younger siblings William, Catharine, Mary and Caroline in the 1851 census at Paddington, London.4

By the terms of her grandfather's will, she should have received £100 in 1852, on her 21st birthday.3

They was recorded as living with their father in the 1881 census at 34 Cambridge Square, Paddington, London. They was recorded as being Also living in the house were three servants..2 Her occupation was recorded as being a person with no occupation in the census.2
