Isabella Catherine Withers may have been born in 1859 at Armidale, New South Wales.2,3 She may have been born in 1859 at Hanging Rock, New South Wales.4

Isabella and Patrick Bourke became the parents of Mary Ellen Sturgeon on Tuesday, 10 February 1880 at Vegetable Creek, in Emmaville, New South Wales. Although Patrick wasn't game - or insitent enough - to have himself named on the birth certificate, he is identified on the baptism record..5,1

Isabella was fined £30 and 5s. 10d. costs for selling spirits without a licence. Given Patrick's publicans licence it seems like there is some connection with him but it is impossible to tell at this distance. Surely, if they were together, she would have traded through his establishment? Perhaps this was her going it alone - and getting caught.1

She may have married William Gill Hawkins, in 1881 at Toowoomba, Queensland..4

In September 1885, Thomas Fitzgerald had his hotel (and one of his guests) robbed of some 'prints, sugar, boots &c.' by a William and Isabella Hawkins and Peter Smith. Hawkins and Smith were arrested near the Queensland border. Isabella was connected to his family; she was the mother of a child (now deceased) born to Patrick Bourke, his brother-in-law (the brother of his wife).6,7,1

In the NSW Police Gazette it was noted on Wednesday, 7 October 1885 that Isabella was charged with theft.1

Isabella died on 27 June 1893 at Walter Street, in Glenn Innes, New South Wales, of exhaustion caused by cancer.4,8 Her body was interred at Glen Innes Cemetery on 28 June 1893 at Glenn Innes, New South Wales. She is bured in the Roman Catholic section..4
