John Charles Battle was born circa 1833 at England.1,2 He was the son of John Battle and Martha Spencer Holliday.2 John Charles Battle may have been baptised on Sunday, 10 November 1833 at Wapping, London, Middlesex.2 He was a musician in March 1856.1

He married Lucy Young, daughter of Thomas Young and Sarah (?), at St. George's Anglican Church on Monday, 3 March 1856 at Battery Point, Tasmania..1 John (and presumably his spouse Lucy) lived in June 1857 at 103 Murray Street, in Hobart.3,4 John (and presumably his spouse Lucy) lived in March 1860 at at Young Street in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.5

He was a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters.6 John (and presumably his spouse Lucy) lived in January 1867 at at Hanover Street in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.6

John died on 18 January 1867 at the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.2 His body was interred at Melbourne General Cemetery on 20 January 1867 at the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.2

Father and son Thomas and John were apparently significant figures with the Britannia Football Club ('The Brits'). John was an official and Thomas was a player, playing from at least 1878, awarded a silver cup in 1888 for 'good following' and awarded a frame of photographs in 1889.7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14
