Sarah Hawthorn was born circa 1836 at Ireland.1 She was the daughter of William Hawthorn and Margaret McLachlan.1

She was recorded as living with Robert, Elizabeth and Margaret in the 1841 census at 28 Bell Street, Glasgow.2

She was recorded as living with her parents, a boarder and siblings Elizabeth and Margaret in the 1851 census at 61 New Wynd, St. Mary, Glasgow. She was recorded as being 15 years old. He was recorded as being 43 years old. Also living in the house were three of his daughters and a boarder.1 Her occupation was recorded as being a silk factory worker in the census.1
