William Hawthorn was born circa 1808 at Ireland.1

He married Margaret McLachlan, daughter of (?) McLachlan, circa 1830.1

He was recorded as head of household in the 1841 census with Margaret McLachlan (which other records indicate is his spouse) at 28 Bell Street, Glasgow. His age was recorded as 30 years old. Also living in the house were 4 of their children.2 His occupation was recorded as being a marble cutter in the census.2

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census with Margaret McLachlan as his spouse at 61 New Wynd, St. Mary, Glasgow. He was recorded as being 43 years old. Also living in the house were three of his daughters and a boarder.3 His occupation was recorded as being a marble labourer in the census.3

He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Margaret McLachlan as his spouse at St. Mary, Glasgow.1 His occupation was recorded as being a general labourer in the census.1

William died before April 1871.4
