Leonard Ellison was born circa 1850 at Manchester.1 He was the son of William Poppelwell Ellison and Martha Ann Leonard.1

He was recorded as living with his parents and a servant in the 1851 census at Church Terrace, Tranmere, Cheshire. He was recorded as being just one year old.1

He was recorded as living with his parents, two servants, and his three younger siblings Frank, Herbert and Jesse in the 1861 census at Upper Seymour Street, Tranmere, Cheshire; he was recorded as being 11 years old.2 Leonard Ellison was a scholar.2

Leonard may have died circa September 1873 at Birkenhead Registration District, Cheshire.3
