William was born circa 1821 at North Shields, Tyne and Wear.3,4 William lived in July 1848 at Grove Street, in Ardwick, Manchester.2

William Poppelwell Ellison married Martha Ann Leonard, daughter of James Leonard and Mary Wayte, at Rusholme Road Chapel on Thursday, 13 July 1848 at Rusholme, Manchester.2,1

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census with Martha Ann Leonard as his spouse at Church Terrace, Tranmere, Cheshire. He was recorded as being 30 years old. Also living in the house was their young son and a servant.3 William Poppelwell Ellison was a clerk "to a firm exporting British manufactured goods to the United States of America."3

He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Martha as his wife at Upper Seymour Street, Tranmere, Cheshire; he was recorded as being 40. Also living in the house were their four children and two servants.5 William Poppelwell Ellison was a clerk.5

He was recorded as head of household in the 1881 census at 30 Harland Road, Tranmere, Cheshire. He was recorded as being 60 years of age. Also living in the house was his 21 year old daughter.4 He was a commercial clerk (wholesale provisions.)4

William may have died circa December 1893 at West Derby Registration District, Liverpool.6
