Robert was born circa 1800 at Kincardine, Ross-shire, Scotland.3 He was the son of Duncan Ross and Collina Ross.2

He married Anne Nicholson, the daughter of a boat builder, daughter of Donald Nicholson and Mary Margaret MacDougall, at Manse on Tuesday, 24 February 1829 at Culag, the Parish of Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland..1,4 Robert Ross was a house carpenter.1

He was recorded as head of household in the 1841 census with Anne Nicholson (which other records indicate is his spouse) at Rosschall(?), the Parish of Creich, Sutherland, Scotland. His age was recorded as being 40 years old. Also living in the house were three of their children.5 Robert Ross was a saw miller.5

He was recorded as head of household in the 1851 census with Anne Nicholson as his spouse at Lochinver, the parish of Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. His age was recorded as being 51 years old. Also living in the house were three of their children and a lodger.6 Robert Ross was a house carpenter.6

He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Anne Nicholson as his spouse at Stoer, the Parish of Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. He was recorded as being 61 years old. Also living in the house were two of their children.7

He was recorded as head of household in the 1871 census with Anne Nicholson as his spouse at Stoer, the Parish of Assynt, Sutherland. His age was recorded as 70 years old. Also living in the house was their 38 year old daughter.8 Robert Ross was a joiner.8 He was a master joiner in February 1881.2

Robert died on 22 February 1881 at Lochinver, the parish of Assynt, Sutherland, of bronchitis senilis, a condition that had existed for a month.2
